Literature from Sexaholics Anonymous

It is an interesting phenomenon that those who suffer from one addiction find that they identify amazingly well with 12 Step literature that deals with other addictions. That is definately true with the literature from Sexaholics Anonymous. Many who have different challenges, including the spouses of sex addicts, have found help in these volumes.

The SA "White Book"

The SA White Book

As you can see from the picture, the Sexaholics Anonymous White Book is about as anonymous as you can get. With no image on the cover, it is obvious why it is called "The White Book."

This book is a marvelous interpretation of the 12 Step program and application to the needs of anyone struggling with sexual addiction. The book explains that sexual addiction is not really about sex or a need for sexual experiences, but rather a need for a deep relationship with God. The sexual acting out is simply a misguided attempt to soothe the individual that inevitably produces more pain than the person started out with. It is easy to extrapolate these principle to all other addictions, recognizing that God is the answer for us all.

The writer of the White Book struggled with many kinds of acting out, including visits to prostitutes and extra-marital affairs. If you are concerned that his story may be triggering to you, you may want to skip the early chapter that relates his personal story. You will probably have no problem with the rest of the book. The standards of Sexaholics Anonymous are totally compatable with those of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, namely, total abstinence before marriage and complete fidelity after marriage.
