Dear Bishop

In Dear Bishop, Phil discusses the nature of the problem of pornography and how will power is not enough to recover from this addiction. He talks about the roadblocks to recovery, such as denial, rationalization, shame and hopelessness. He then outlines some basic concepts covering the beginning of breaking free from this addiction, the necessity of divine intervention and connecting with the Savior and the Atonement, as well as behavioral signs that indicate recovery is taking place. In addition to bishops and other priesthood leaders, the spouse, family and loved ones of the addict will find words of help and encouragement. Dear Bishop is designed to provide information to bishops, branch presidents, and stake and district presidents on recovery from addiction to pornography and to help them deal more effectively with members who may be struggling with the problem. The ideas contained in this booklet are not presented as the official doctrine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter–day Saints, but are distilled from the author’s own experience of recovery from sexual addictions and from the experiences of others he has met on this journey.
